Introduction
"I want the logo to be Gold."
This is the most common request we get. But then we ask: "Do you want Hot Stamping or Cold Foil?"
Most brands don't know the difference. They just want it to shine.
But choosing the wrong method can ruin your design.
Hot Stamping is about Texture and Brilliance.
Cold Stamping is about Speed and Complexity.
Here is the SampoX guide to choosing the right "bling" for your tube.
How it works:
It is a physical process. A heated metal die (mold) presses a layer of foil onto the tube with high pressure.
The Look & Feel:
The Shine: It is the brightest metallic effect possible. It looks like a mirror.
The Touch: Because of the pressure, it leaves a slight debossed (indented) impression. You can feel the edge of the gold with your finger.
When to use it:
Luxury Brands: Ideally for simple, bold Logos or brand names.
Minimalist Designs: Since it requires a custom metal die, it cannot handle ultra-fine lines or photographic details.
How it works:
It is a printing process. We print UV glue onto the tube in the shape of your design, press the foil onto the glue, and cure it with UV light. No heat, no heavy pressure.
The Look & Feel:
The Shine: Slightly less brilliant than Hot Stamping (about 90% brightness).
The Touch: Completely flat. It feels smooth like the rest of the tube.
The Superpower: Gradients & Colors
Because Cold Foil is applied inline with printing, we can print color directly over the foil.
Want a metallic rainbow gradient? Cold Foil can do it.
Want a complex floral pattern with metallic accents? Cold Foil is perfect.
| Feature | Hot Stamping | Cold Stamping |
| Brightness | ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (Mirror-like) | ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (Shiny but flatter) |
| Texture | Tactile (Debossed) | Smooth (Flat) |
| Gradients | Impossible (Solid colors only) | Excellent (Can perform Halftones) |
| Cost | Higher (Requires Metal Dies) | Lower (Uses Printing Plates) |
| Speed | Slower (Separate Step) | Faster (Inline with Printing) |
Scenario A: You have a clean white tube with just your brand name in Gold.
Verdict: Choose Hot Stamping. The tactile depression and superior brightness will make the logo pop like jewelry.
Scenario B: You have a colorful, psychedelic design with metallic blue waves fading into metallic pink.
Verdict: Choose Cold Stamping. Only Cold Foil can handle the gradient overlay and complex registration.
Don't just say "Gold."
Specify the type of Gold.
If you want Prestige & Texture → Hot Stamp.
If you want Creativity & Gradients → Cold Stamp.
